Sunflower

Brief Description

Sunflowers are tall, annual plants known for their large, bright yellow, daisy-like flower heads. The flower head is actually composed of many smaller florets, with ray florets on the outer ring and disc florets in the center, which mature into seeds. They typically have rough, hairy stems and broad, heart-shaped leaves.

Care Instructions

Sunflowers require full sun (at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily) and well-draining soil. They prefer rich, fertile soil but can tolerate various soil types. Water deeply and regularly, especially during dry periods and when the plants are young or flowering. Taller varieties may need staking to prevent them from falling over in wind or rain. Fertilize sparingly, as too much nitrogen can promote leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
