A perennial shrub with arching, thorny stems (canes). The leaves are typically compound with 3 to 5 serrated leaflets. In autumn and winter, the leaves often turn a deep purple or burgundy color as seen in the image. It produces edible black aggregate fruits.

Care Instructions

Requires full sun to partial shade and well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Regular watering is necessary during fruit development. Pruning is essential; second-year canes should be removed after fruiting to encourage new growth. Provide a trellis or support for trailing varieties.
