Tomato
Scientific Name: Solanum lycopersicum
Plant Family: Solanaceae (Nightshade family)
Native Region: Western South America (Andes), particularly Peru and Ecuador.

Brief Description
Tomato plants are typically sprawling, herbaceous annuals with hairy, pinnately compound leaves. They produce small yellow flowers that develop into round or oval fruits, which can range widely in color (red, yellow, orange, green, purple) and size. The fruits are botanically berries.
Care Instructions
Tomatoes thrive in full sun (at least 6-8 hours daily) and well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 6.8. They require consistent watering, especially during fruit development, to prevent cracking. Support the plants with stakes or cages as they grow. Fertilize regularly with a balanced fertilizer or one higher in phosphorus and potassium. Prune suckers for better air circulation and fruit production.
