Porcini Mushroom
Scientific Name: Boletus edulis
Plant Family: Boletaceae
Native Region: Northern Hemisphere (Europe, Asia, North America)

Brief Description
The Porcini mushroom is characterized by its large, reddish-brown cap, which can be convex to flat, and typically has a slightly sticky or greasy surface when moist. The underside of the cap has white to yellowish pores (not gills) that become olive-brown with age. The stem is thick, robust, and usually pale or whitish with a finely reticulated (net-like) pattern near the top. It often has a bulbous base. The flesh is firm and white, and does not change color when cut.
Care Instructions
This is a wild mushroom and cannot be cultivated easily. It grows symbiotically with trees, particularly conifers and deciduous trees like oak and beech. To 'care' for its environment, maintain healthy forests, avoid excessive disturbance of the forest floor, and do not over-harvest. If foraging, ensure sustainable practices.
