Maize (Corn)

Brief Description

Maize plants are tall, grass-like annuals that grow an average of 2.5 meters (8 feet) with some varieties topping 10 meters (30 feet). They have broad, long leaves and produce ears of kernels, which are the edible part of the plant.

Care Instructions

Maize prefers full sun exposure and well-drained, fertile soil with a pH between 6.0 and 7.0. It requires consistent moisture, especially during pollination and kernel development. Planting should occur after the last frost when soil temperatures are consistently above 10°C (50°F). Fertilization is often necessary, particularly nitrogen, to support its rapid growth and high yield. Protection from pests like corn earworms and diseases such as rust and smut is also crucial.

Medicinal Value
