- Is the online plant identifier really free?
- Yes. You can identify plants from this page with no account and no download. The free result is the most likely name of your plant and its category. The full care guide, with light, water, soil, propagation, and pest advice, is in the Plant Identifier app.
- How accurate is AI plant identification from a photo?
- It is a strong first guess, not a botanical determination. Many species look alike, and a photo cannot show scent, texture, or the whole plant across its seasons. Treat the result as a starting point and confirm important identifications with a botanist or a trusted field guide.
- Can it tell me whether a plant is safe to eat, touch, or keep around pets?
- No. Neither the web tool nor the app gives edibility, toxicity, medicinal, or safety information, and an AI identification must never be used to make those decisions. Many dangerous plants have harmless look-alikes. If someone or a pet has eaten or touched an unknown plant, contact a doctor, vet, or poison control.
- What kind of photo works best?
- Daylight, a plain background, and a sharp close-up of the most distinctive part: an open flower, a leaf with its edges and veins visible, or bark and overall shape for trees. One clear feature beats a wide shot of the whole garden.
- Can it identify houseplants, flowers, trees, and succulents?
- Yes. Houseplants, garden flowers, trees, shrubs, succulents and cacti, herbs, ferns, grasses, and weeds are all in scope. Mushrooms, lichens, and artificial plants are flagged as not a plant.
