A low-growing, clustered cactus with finger-like, cylindrical stems that are covered in small, soft white spines. It produces large, bright orange-red flowers in the spring and summer.

This cactus requires bright, indirect sunlight or full sun. It should be planted in well-draining cactus or succulent soil. Water only when the soil is completely dry, and significantly reduce watering during the winter months. It is cold-hardy down to about 20°F (-6°C) if kept dry.
