Pokeweed
Phytolacca americana
Pokeweed is a large, herbaceous perennial plant known for its striking red stems and clusters of green to dark purple berries. It typically grows 4 to 10 feet tall, with simple, oval to lance-shaped leaves. The flowers are small, white to greenish, and grow in elongated clusters (racemes) that later develop into the berry clusters.

Pokeweed is generally considered a weed and is very adaptable, thriving in a variety of conditions. It prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-draining soil. It is drought-tolerant once established. Due to its toxicity, it is not usually cultivated as an ornamental plant and is more often found in wild or disturbed areas. If removal is desired, comprehensive digging of the taproot is necessary to prevent regrowth.
